Truro Cathedral
Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols –23rd and 24th December. 7pm. Little do people know that this event began here in Cornwall nearly 140 years ago. The first Bishop of Truro devised this Christmas Eve service of 9 lessons interspersed with 9 carols in 1880 the format of which now spreads across the world. VERY popular services so get there early.
Midnight Mass – 24th December -11.00pm
Christmas Day Service – 10am.
Pets Service – 2?th December – 2.30pm
Charlestown Harbour’s Boxing Day Dip
Charlestown Rowing Club organise an annual Boxing Day swim that takes place at 11am. Spectators equally as welcome! Participants must be over 11 years of age (under sixteens must be accompanied by an adult) and have raised a minimum of £10 in sponsorship money or donate £10 on the day – sponsorship forms are available by emailing the club at charlestowngigs@gmail.com
New Year’s Eve Fireworks
This year, there will be two New Year’s Eve fireworks displays for the whole family to enjoy, brought to you by Truro City Council. On 31st December at 19.30, there will be a family display, perfect to let younger-ones join in the celebrations. Then join us again for the Midnight fireworks as we welcome the New Year.Both displays can be viewed from Lemon Quay and are free to attend.
New Year’s Day Swim, Gorran Haven (20 mins drive)
Join Gorran Haven Gig Club (or just watch) to brave the sea for a New Year’s Day dip. 11am. As you drive into GH park in the large carpark on the left and walk down to the beach.
New Year’s Day Fireworks, Portscatho (30 mins drive)
Family friendly fireworks in a stunning location. Fireworks are set off from the jetty at 6pm. Park in either of the large car parks at both ends of the village and walk down to the harbour.
